Concerns Emerson lecturing at Providence (R.I) in 1837; Emerson conducting services and delivering a sermon at Farley's church to determine whether Emerson still wanted to be a pastor; and Farley's wife, Jane Sigourney, having been a pupil of Emerson when he was teaching at William Emerson's school. Also contains a transcript of a poem written by Emerson in Jane's childhood autograph album in 1820.
